IEC TC 14 (Power Transformers) has nine ongoing revisions covering IEC 60076-1 (General), -2 (Temperature rise), -4 (Impulse tests), -5 (Ability to withstand short circuit), -6 (Reactors), -9 (Tap changers), -18 (Measurement of losses), -19-2 (Photovoltaic applications), and -26 (Environmental aspects). Most significantly, IEC has begun developing an entirely new standard: IEC 60076-17 – Transformers for photovoltaic power generation, battery storage, electric vehicle supply, and hydrogen generation. IEC 60076-4:2026, covering lightning impulse and switching impulse tests, was published in July 2026, providing updated test waveforms and procedures for power transformers and reactors-. For applications requiring IEEE compliance, the IEEE Transformers Committee continues to harmonize documents with IEC, including dual-logo standards for phase-shifting transformers, HVDC transformers, and step-voltage regulators.
