Venezuela's grid reconstruction is not a single project — it is a multi-billion-dollar undertaking that will require thousands of transformers across every voltage class. Understanding where the demand is concentrated is essential for suppliers targeting this market.
The GE Vernova Agreement: A Signal of Scale
In September 2026, GE Vernova signed two new agreements in Caracas — one with PDVSA for self-generation at oil and gas operating sites, and one with state utility Corpoelec to advance projects strengthening the national electric system. The agreements call for bringing 1 GW of new reliable power online within 24 months, followed by 5 GW over the following four years.
The scope covers thermal and hydroelectric power generation, transmission and distribution infrastructure, and key substations. A six-week technical audit conducted by GE Vernova's teams found significant deterioration across Corpoelec's generating and grid assets.
GE Vernova's corporate director Roger Martella said the company plans to hire more than 1,000 local workers for maintenance and technical upgrade work. This level of commitment from a major Western OEM signals that Venezuela's grid reconstruction is moving from planning to execution.
The Transformer Procurement Pipeline
Corpoelec is already executing aggressive transformer deployment programs:
Zulia State: 376 new transformers were delivered in August 2026, following 520 units delivered in late July — a total of 876 transformers in 10 days. The units range from 15 kVA to 167.5 kVA and will benefit more than 13,000 families.
Carabobo State: More than 310 single-phase transformers of various capacities (including 100 kVA units) were delivered to strengthen the regional electrical system, along with medium and high voltage equipment.
Maracaibo: The "Plan Cayapa" initiative deployed 150 transformers across 18 parishes.
Planta Centro: A 450 MVA Siemens autotransformer is being assembled and installed as part of efforts to strengthen the National Electric System.
These are not isolated procurements. They represent a sustained, nationwide program to replace burned-out and aging distribution transformers — a program that will require continued procurement for years to come.
The Rooftop Solar and Renewable Energy Opportunity
Venezuela's electricity sector reform also opens the door for renewable energy development. As private investment enters the market, solar and wind projects will need step-up transformers for grid connection, collector substation transformers for solar farm arrays, and auxiliary transformers for plant operations.
The Venezuela Medium Power Transformers Market — covering both oil-immersed and dry-type units in the intermediate rating band — is entering a period of sustained expansion, with global demand projected to grow at a CAGR of 4–6% from 2026 to 2035.
