How to Tell a Transformer Factory from a Trading Company — Before You Wire a Deposit

2026-10-29

China produces more than 40% of the world’s transformers, and its export volume is rising sharply — transformer exports reached roughly RMB 21.77 billion in January–April 2026 alone, up 27% year on year. That volume attracts both genuine manufacturers and intermediaries presenting themselves as factories. The distinction is not cosmetic. It determines whether you have visibility into the things that actually decide reliability: core steel grade, winding material, insulation system, and production process control.

Four checks that expose the difference quickly

1. Business licence scope. Ask for the Chinese original. The registered scope should include manufacturing, not only sales or trading.

2. Factory address consistency. The address on the business licence, the address on test reports, and the address shown in a live video tour should match. Inconsistency is a red flag that the “factory” is a sales office.

3. Live video tour during working hours. Request a walkthrough of the winding shop, the core cutting area, the oil processing or casting area (depending on type), and the test bay. A real factory can arrange this within a day. A trading company will offer catalogue photos instead.

4. Test report completeness. Genuine type test reports issued by accredited laboratories typically run 50 to 120 pages. A two-page “certificate” with no measured values is not a type test report.

The cost of getting this wrong

The penalty for mistaking a trader for a factory is rarely the invoice price. It surfaces later as late delivery, non-compliant units rejected at site, losses higher than quoted, or missing documentation that stalls customs and grid approval. Every intermediary layer adds cost and delay without adding engineering value — and when something goes wrong, the layer becomes the place where responsibility disappears.

Jiangsu Hualai Electric is a 100% original transformer factory integrating R&D, production, inspection, and sales. The factory is in Nianzhuang Industrial Park, Pizhou, Jiangsu — the same address that appears on our business registration and our test documentation. When you contact us, you reach the factory decision-makers, including the owner. There is no trading layer between your inquiry and the production line.

Verify us as a factory. Then talk specifications.
